Often times we as students get into the habit of receiving scholarships and never meeting the donors. From my recent experience, I see how much of a disadvantage that can be.

A Transformative Investment in Surgical Training

A newly created laboratory at the UNC School of Medicine will give medical students, residents, fellows and physicians the opportunity to learn and to hone their surgical skills before entering the operating room to perform delicate procedures.  Established thanks to a $1 million gift from the North Carolina Eye Bank and a collaboration between the departments of Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, the new surgical lab provides students with access to life-like simulators such as robotic stations and anatomic computer-based simulators, as well as 19 surgical stations allowing cadaveric-based learning in eye, ear and neurosurgery techniques.  It is the only lab of its kind in this region.

BCBSNC, UNC School of Medicine Collaborate

The United States and North Carolina are facing a deepening shortage of doctors and primary care physicians. On December 3rd, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and the UNC School of Medicine announced a collaboration to create a physician assistant master’s degree program designed for returning military veterans. The collaboration will help to reduce the shortage of health care professionals in our state.

Join honorary hosts Roy Williams and Larry Fedora for the 25th Annual Carolina Kids Classic Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 20th, at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, NC.  Benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, this event has become a very special local tradition.  Since its inception in 1988, it has raised more than $3 million for children across North Carolina.  <<Learn More>>
